Site Plan and Oblique Diagrams by David Musa

Site Plan and Oblique Diagrams

My intervention is simultaneously an effort to create public, open, and community dedicated space for the people here to interact in without having to stand in spaces of “in-between”, and to make a case for increased vertical density in prewar apartments, which are a significant part of the fabric of the community, in order to serve a growing population. I am accomplishing this by intervening within the prewar apartment typology. By carving out units within these buildings and replacing them on top of the building I am increasing surface area to make space for the public program and presenting a modern version of living in a prewar apartment unit. This creates valuable intersections of both old and new as well as interior and exterior spaces within these buildings. This literal game of Jenga creates a new building type, which allows for access to light, air, and connection to the exterior.
