This project is a free public gallery which is located in the block between 110th and 111th street, west of the Broadway and east of the Riverland park. I focus on the multiple relationships between the gallery and its surroundings, from basic accessibility, to visual connections and materiality. For accessibility, it has four entrances, one of which is a ramp connected to the Riverland Park and is a welcoming space that could bring art into ordinary residential blocks and vivify people’s urban life. For its relationship with the block, it occupies two lobbies of the surrounding buildings and has visual connections with the other two ones. For materiality, its main material is aluminum, which is sprayed red and is reflective, which forms a sharp contrast with the surrounding old residential buildings.
