We are proposing a new type of infrastructure. Two programs are proposed next to one another in a typical and hypothetical Manhattan block. The food collective is a place where food is grown (farm), and stored (warehouse), processed (factory) and sold (market). While the fire station is a place that becomes a safe space in case of a natural disaster yet on a regular day it would benefit in terms of public participation drawn in by the food collective. As it often occurs within the Manhattan Block that two completely autonomous buildings become neighbors. This amalgam of functions arranged in a small parcel of land benefit from the proximity to each other. The training spaces of the fire station and market street food collective bring people closer and in turn make them aware of and participate in the infrastructural activities of the city.
