Located in the Jackson Heights, the childcare center responds to the local business corridor, the land trust community as well as the new demands for the ‘ethic of care’. The project focuses on employing the cultivation volume as the intermediate to combine the childcare center and the community garden, which also serves as the infrastructure for the community to reinvigorate the underutilized backyard green space for a ‘new garden city’.
The project starts with the climate study and later incorporates the community and urban elements into the project. By creating a semi-outdoor playground consisting of greens, the childcare center is reshaped both from the space organization and caring structure, aiming to serve as the institution for the community. It connects the ‘closed world’ with the outside urban resources to explore more possibilities for the Green New Deal.
