Urban Agriculture

Our project relates to the role of women and their non-numerated domestic labor. By enabling an urban garden, communal kitchen, and a public interface we aim to help the neighborhood women of La Chira (Chorrillos) reclaim their political agency and strengthen social ties through synergistic shared dispersion of household chores, which are often isolating and unacknowledged when occurring individually in each home. Following the communal model of comedores populares active in Peru while simultaneously drawing from the rich history of urban agriculture in Lima, we hope to use a community center and urban garden to improve the visibility and engagement of women in both the political and social sphere.
