the New Newburgh Boathouse

Embracing history while looking to the future, the new proposal adds to the original structure by elevating and rotating its volume to welcome views, prevent flooding, and reveal new programmatic opportunities. Creating an open passage to the river while housing sun-filled fitness and community spaces, the new building transforms the Newburgh Rowing Club into a waterfront destination while expanding its horizons as an organization. In contrast to the original building’s wood construction, the new structure comprises concrete, steel, and heavy timber. The point of intersection between the old and new systems become a focal point of the project, engendering complexity and opportunity, both structurally and visually.
