Networked Protest Protection and Spatialized Rehabilitation

With the current paradigm of shared media, the definition of witness has been restructured away from the dichotomy between direct observer and observation. Instead, we now operate in the mode of event, recorder, and viewer. The democratization and crowd-sourcing of media has created complex networks of digital witness, where a single person’s traumatic experience can be perceived globally. This community trauma of witness is currently left without direct treatment. To develop a site of post-trauma therapy, avant-garde research in the deployment of immersive digital environments in therapeutic practice are used to educate an architecture that acts as an anchor for retaliative activism within the community. This activism program is then dispersed into the surrounding community from the building using both deployable structures and protest prosthetics. Ultimately, the two functionalities recursively support each other as the wearables’ recording data educates and populates the digital therapeutic spaces which act to provide community support for these traumatic events.
