This project proposes the design of a new interpretative education center at the John Jay Heritage site. By focusing on John Jay’s historical achievements as an early anti-slavery advocate together with the hidden and invisible statues of slaves both in space and in history in the early days of emancipation, the education center materialize the matter of these entangled lives of different social classes in their complex historical and current interrelations. The historical documentations and archeological objects were integrated into the spatial narrative to expose the complex contradictions, through which it creates educational experience for visitors to connect those struggles with present day concerns about civil rights and civil liberties.
