The New P.S. 64

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1990 requires that public schools create an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for eligible students. Retaining the primary role of P.S. 64 as a public school, the adaptive reuse is focused around physiological and emotional obstructions students may encounter. From individualized and permeable learning zones, tactile way-finding systems, to a netted playground for active exploration, the design aims to create an accessible environment where differently enabled students and the larger community can learn and explore through diverse sensory experiences.
