The proposed school that occupies the P.S. 64 lot is envisioned with the overarching themes of porosity and fluidity, both of which are pivotal in constructing an optimal learning environment. The original mass is perforated and reconfigured with inserted volumes and voids. A steel frame structure is imposed as a way of façade retrofit that both reinforces the existing shell and creates a new infrastructural system that promotes spatial diversity. The existing building takes on a new role as a fine and performing arts school that provides an inclusive venue for the students as well the wider community. Since art in essence is about the spontaneity of creativity and the fluidity of interpretation, through reimagining the school I hope to synchronize the physical environment with the teachings of the school to deliver a vigorous learning space.
