The Laminated School seeks to foster an interconnectedness within the student-staff body and the greater community. Inspired by both the emergence and composition of neuronal tissue, nesting and porosity were deployed in material––organizational and programmatic decisions to maximize connectivity. The existing building is repurposed by converting the porous brick façade into diaphanous classroom walls, allowing for a continuous permeation of light and sound throughout the building, collapsing the divide between interior and exterior. The school provides a space to process and consolidate daily stimuli, learning how to connect with other individuals, the greater community, and ultimately, the futures they envision.
