The Stacking School challenges the typology of traditional primary schools with repetitive classroom cells and reimagines the school being an aggregate of different environments where students have diverse spatial experiences and visual access to the city. By treating the existing P.S .64 as a tripartite system both horizontally and vertically, a 3 by 3 block is formed. Each of the blocks is occupied by a space distinctly different from others, allowing for a diversity of pedagogies. Making use of readymade materials, including everyday objects, a readymade site, and an existing building shell, this project explores the playfulness and literalness of architecture for kids.
