Monoculture farming, incentivized by federal subsidies gained momentum after the 1970s. This trend replaced Indigenous and other cultural farming practices in the Hudson Valley. To address this Farming Apartheid, AGRI [CULTURAL] KONBIT seeks to revive lost Indigenous and regenerative farming practices to sequester carbon as well as support land stewardship in Kingston, Hudson Valley. The three components of KONBIT system which means co-operative labor are a communal farm, an active linear farming corridor and urban programs to combat food insecurity in Kingston. The project works to nurture soil to combat climate change and encourage stewardship to build social resilience.
