The Bridge School provides a unique learning environment for the homeless youth of the East Village, where students are housed in one wing of the building, and attend classes in the other. The middle bar of P.S. 64 is removed and replaced with a series of floors that alternate between suite-style housing for students and gathering spaces for the larger school community. Nested in the middle sits a movable platform that accommodates residential needs or educational needs depending on what floor it lives on. As the platform oscillates between spaces, it creates a gradient of interactions that exist outside of the rigidity of both home and school, paying homage to the students that it serves.
