School of Misuse

Far away from Manhattan, residents in Edgemere spend an average of 1.5 hours on commute. Many studies have shown the negative effects of a gruesome long commute: higher risk of depression, mental illness, obesity, higher rate of divorce, and less stable familial environment. The life expectancy in Edgemere is 4.7 years shorter than the NYC average. An economically ideal, structurally sound architectural model may present itself accessible but for some it can be authoritative and discouraging. Before generating the thought to challenge a norm, we need to know that we can. Here I propose six methods to misuse the steel barn model, where instability, whim, absurdity, stupidity, and inefficiency come in. This collection of misuse accommodates four schools: a City-As School, a Harbor School, a Night School, and a Home School. People of different ages, incomes, familial conditions study here; while the architectural model takes itself seriously, it opens up to the community asking for critique and helps generate the knowledge to empower the students.
