GSAPP Graduation Ceremony, May 11, 2024

The GSAPP Graduation Ceremony is held on the South Lawn (between Low Memorial Library and Butler Library), and is followed by receptions in Havemeyer Plaza and Avery/Schermerhorn Plaza.

Schedule

The schedule is as follows:

  • 1:30pm
    Student check-in opens, graduates begin line-up in Lerner Hall
  • 2:30pm
    Gates open for guests
  • 3:30pm Ceremony begins with Graduate Procession to South Lawn
  • 5:30pm Outdoor Receptions Begin (Avery/Schermerhorn and Havemeyer Plazas)
  • 6:30pm
    Indoor EoYS Reception Starts (Avery Hall)
  • 8:30pm
    Outdoor Receptions End (Avery/Schermerhorn and Havemeyer Plazas)
  • 9:30pm
    Indoor EoYS Reception Ends (Avery Hall)
Order Your Cap and Gown

Regalia is mandatory for all graduation events including the GSAPP Ceremony on May 11. All academic attire, including the cap and gown, is ordered through the Columbia University Bookstore either in-person at Lerner Hall, or through the Online store.

For more information on academic attire, graduation announcements, class rings, and diploma frames, please call the Bookstore directly at 212-854-4132.

Orders can be placed in-store beginning February 27. Online orders, to be shipped to the student, can be placed beginning on March 4 and ending on March 22

Confirm Your Participation in the GSAPP Ceremony

Graduates who intend to walk at the 2024 GSAPP Graduation Ceremony on May 11 need to confirm their participation in the ceremony in advance.

All graduates have received an email invitation to confirm their participation via Marching Order. The registration deadline to participate in the 2024 GSAPP Graduation Ceremony is Sunday, April 21 at 12:00am.

Reserve Your Guest Tickets

Graduates who wish to participate in the GSAPP Graduation Ceremony and University Commencement must register for tickets online, for themselves and their guests. To register for tickets, please click here.

Each graduate will be able to order up to four (4) guest tickets for the GSAPP Graduation Ceremony on May 11. After the initial registration period closes on May 1, graduates will have the opportunity to request up to two (2) additional tickets for the May 11 GSAPP Graduation Ceremony on a first-come, first-served basis. More details will be shared once the initial period closes.

The Columbia University Commencement will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Each graduate will be able to request up to two guest tickets to this event.

International Guest Travel
Please see the ISSO’s information on inviting family and friends to visit here. If graduating students need a formal invitation letter for international guests, please fill out this form to request one.
Request your Diploma

Diplomas are issued by the Office of the University Registrar.

Based on the degree conferral date for all graduates in April, May, and June of 2024, diplomas will be mailed to the “Diploma Address” that is on file in SSOL.

Live Stream
The ceremony will be livestreamed on the University website for anyone unable to attend: ​​https://commencement.columbia.edu/content/webcast
Pre-ceremony Slideshow
A slideshow will play for the family and guests at the event in advance of the ceremony. Please share your favorite moments of your time at GSAPP, and you may include greetings or thank-you messages to family or class-mates.
The deadline is Sunday, May 6 in order to ensure your material is included. Google Form Link
Graduate Photography
A professional photography firm, GradImages, will be present at the GSAPP Graduation Ceremony; each graduate will be photographed during the ceremony and will have the opportunity to purchase photos following the ceremony. Graduates have the opportunity to complete a consent form on the graduate registration website.
Dual Degree Candidates
Each graduate with a GSAPP dual degree will choose one of the programs with which to walk during the ceremony. You will select this in the graduate registration form confirming your participation. The second degree will be noted when your name is read at the ceremony. Students who are completing their dual degree in the Fall 2024 semester are eligible to participate in the May 2024 GSAPP Graduation Ceremony.
Disability Services
Graduates with guests who will need assistance or extra time to be seated are encouraged to contact us in advance at commencement@arch.columbia.edu and at access@columbia.edu with details so we will be prepared for your arrival and have appropriate seating available. We ask that guests needing assistance or in wheelchairs enter campus at the Amsterdam at 116th Street gate
