Prizes & Awards

Please complete the forms listed below to receive your prize funds. All documentation must be submitted via e-mail to the GSAPP Awards Team in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs by Monday, August 3, 2026. If your prize is a travel award, these documents must be submitted three months before you plan to travel in order to allow time for the prize funds to be issued. All travel prizes must comply with Columbia University’s travel guidelines.

REQUIRED PAPERWORK FOR 2026 COMMENCEMENT AWARDS

Submit the following to the GSAPP Awards Team:

  • Payment Coversheet + Prize Request Form (see detailed instructions below)
  • Lowenfish Prize Agreement (Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize only)
  • Kinne Travel Proposal (William Kinne Fellows Traveling Prize only. 1-page brief written request that includes tentative destinations and dates of travel. Please do not resubmit your full Kinne proposal.)

PAYMENT COVERSHEET + PRIZE REQUEST FORM INSTRUCTIONS

Recipients of multiple awards should complete separate Payment Coversheets + Prize Request Forms for each prize.

List the prize you received as well as your contact information, including:

  • long-term e-mail address (Note: Do not list your Columbia e-mail address; you must provide your personal e-mail address.)

  • phone number

  • primary mailing address

Do not fill out the “Department Information” section of the Payment Coversheet.

SUBMITTING DOCUMENTATION

Documents should be combined into a single PDF. Recipients of multiple awards should prepare separate combined PDFs for each award.

PAYMENT DISTRIBUTION OPTIONS

Payment will be issued via direct deposit (for domestic bank accounts) or wire transfer (for foreign bank accounts). After e-mailing your prize award packet to the GSAPP Awards Team, you will receive further instructions on how to set up your payee profile, including filling out relevant tax forms.

TAXES

Please note that prizes may be taxed at varying rates depending on the IRS regulations/tax treaty specific to your country. Those taxes may be taken out of the prize amount when it is issued. If you have any questions, please check the IRS website. We are not allowed to provide tax advice of any kind.
