Abraham Murrell

Adjunct Assistant Professor

Abraham Murrell is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP, the Director of Architecture Background Office, and Co-Founder of Another Studio. His work and teaching focus on equity and sustainability.

Formerly, at Adjaye Associates, he was Project Lead for Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure, Sycamore & Oak, and The Princeton University Art Museum. He also contributed to projects at Studio Goetz, Solomonoff Architecture Studio, Beyer Blinder Belle, and Sharon Davis Design where he collaborated on the Bayalpata Hospital. He has worked to fund and build homes with Habitat for Humanity chapters across America and is a member of the Mount Fuji Wood Culture Society.

Abraham received a Master of Architecture from Columbia GSAPP, where he was awarded the McKim Prize for Design Excellence, the CAA Bill Campbell Award for Exceptional Leadership, the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize, the William Kinne Fellows Traveling Prize, and the Avery 6 Award for commitment to the student body. While at GSAPP he led the Dean’s Program Council, founded GSAPP FC, and co-led GSAPP’s Fair Labor Initiative.

Abraham has taught studios at Columbia GSAPP, University of Maryland, and TU Delft, and participates on curriculum committees and admissions committees.
