Halley Ramos

Halley Ramos is an architectural historian, preservation consultant, and educator whose work bridges historic preservation, digital technology, and cultural resource management. She has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP since 2021, where she teaches courses in visualization and 3D scanning for heritage documentation and interpretation.

Halley is the Co-Founder of S.O.E. Studio, a New York–based design and technology practice specializing in advanced 3D scanning, modeling, and immersive storytelling for historic buildings, landscapes, and artifacts. Through this platform, she has led major cultural heritage projects, including the Tenement Museum Virtual Tour (recognized by The Washington Post and awarded a Society for News Design Silver Medal), the Broken Cities immersive documentary with the International Committee of the Red Cross, and collaborations with the American Battlefield Trust, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the Noguchi Foundation, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

In parallel, Halley is the Northeast’s Lead Architectural Historian at HNTB, where she directs Section 106 compliance and cultural resource management for large-scale infrastructure initiatives across the Northeast Corridor, including Amtrak’s Susquehanna River Rail Bridge replacement and NJ Transit’s Secaucus to Meadowlands Transitway.

Her research focuses on hybrid preservation workflows—integrating digital imaging, AR/VR, CNC fabrication, and traditional craft to rematerialize and restore built heritage. This work draws on her Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia University and her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Planning and Design from the University of New Mexico.

Halley’s scholarship and practice have been recognized with awards including The Explorers Club 50 (EC50), the Society for News Design Silver Medal, and the Murtaugh Graham Prize from ICOMOS-USA. She has published in the IEEE Digital Heritage Journal and contributed to exhibitions and workshops internationally, from Venice to Edinburgh.

Beyond her professional work, she has a strong interest in historic landscapes and horticulture, having completed the Historic Landscape Institute Fellowship at Monticello and UVA and earned a certificate in Horticulture from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
