Jonathan Martin has been an Adjunct Professor in the Urban Planning Program at Columbia GSAPP since 2006. After beginning his career in architecture in Phoenix, Arizona, he earned graduate degrees in urban planning from Cornell University, with a focus on land use, urban design, and housing affordability. With over 25 years of professional and academic experience in design, architecture, and planning, Jonathan has lived and worked in the New York metro area since 2004. His work spans urban planning and design, architecture, and furniture design. He is a partner at BFJ Planning, a leading independent firm in the region, where he focuses on urban design, zoning, comprehensive planning, and facilitation.

His New York City work includes planning facilitation for the South Street Seaport (2014), East Midtown Rezoning (2015), and the Envision SoHo/NoHo community engagement process (2019).
