Michael Rock

Michael Rock is Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Columbia GSAPP. He is a founding partner and creative director of 2x4, where he leads a wide range of cultural and commercial projects for such clients as Nike, Prada, Miu Miu, Kanye West, Target, Hyundai and many others. Previously he was a fellow at the Jan Van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht, The Netherlands, and a contributing editor and graphic design journalist at I.D. Magazine in New York and Eye in London. His writing on design has appeared in publications worldwide and he is currently a contributor to the New York Times T Magazine. He holds an A.B. in Humanities (Literature) from Union College and a M.F.A from the Rhode Island School of Design. He is the recipient of the 1999/2000 Rome Prize in Design from the American Academy in Rome and currently serves on the board of the Academy. His critically acclaimed collection of essays and projects, Multiple Signatures, was published by Rizzoli International in Spring of 2013.

In addition to teaching at Columbia, he is Professor of Design at the Yale School of Art.
