Ryan Severino

Ryan Severino is the Chief Economist and Head of Research at BGO, where he leads global and regional economic analysis, forecasting, and property market research across the firm’s investment strategies and geographies.

Prior to joining BGO, Ryan served as Chief Economist at JLL, overseeing the global economics team and directing macroeconomic and real estate forecasting. Earlier, he was Senior Economist and Director of Research at Reis, where he led market forecasting, valuation, and portfolio analytics. His previous roles include Associate Director of Research at MetLife Real Estate Investments, where he focused on macroeconomic and real estate market analysis, portfolio strategy, and transaction due diligence, and Director of Investment Strategy and Market Research at Starwood Capital Group, where he led firmwide research. He also held research positions at Prudential Real Estate Investors and UBS.

In addition to his professional work, Ryan is an adjunct professor of finance and economics at Columbia University, where he has taught courses in urban economics, portfolio and risk management, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and econometrics. He also brings hands-on experience in real estate asset management, portfolio management, and acquisitions.

Ryan’s original research has appeared in journals including the Wharton Real Estate Review and The Real Estate Finance Journal. His commentary has been featured in The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Financial Times, as well as on CNBC and Bloomberg. He is a member of the CFA Institute, the American Economic Association, NABE, ULI, and NCREIF.

Ryan holds a master’s degree from Columbia University, where he studied international finance and economics, and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, where he studied finance, economics, and Japanese. He is also a CFA Charterholder.

In 2025, he was named one of PERE’s 100 Most Influential People in Global Real Estate Over the Last Decade, recognizing his lasting impact on the industry worldwide.
