Berardo Matalucci

Adjunct Assistant Professor

Berardo Matalucci is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at GSAPP, where he teaches Integrated Building Systems. He is also the co-founder of MIMIC Systems, a startup company developing refrigerant-free heat pumps using solid-state technology. Berardo served as the Director of Environmental Design at SHoP Architects, where he worked with design teams and consultants to create climate-conscious and healthy spaces. Some of his involvements include the Uber Headquarters, Detroit Hudson’s Site, and the New Office Annex for the US Embassy in Thailand.

Berardo holds a Doctorate in Architectural Sciences from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a Master’s in Advanced Architecture from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, and a graduate degree in Building Engineering from the University of L'Aquila in Italy.

Berardo is a recipient of the Europe 40 Under 40 2012 Design Award and a finalist for the Fast Company 2017 World Changing Ideas Award for his research on microclimatic diversity in buildings.
