The Galapagos islands and the ocean around them have become a controlled territory, with institutions like UNESCO prescribing ways of relating to land and water. The remnants of the colonial legacies and slavery is an infrastructure that prohibits the people from a livelihood from nature. Given that the ocean is not neutral and the state has attempted to use it as a regulatory force, this project, then, asks: how can intimacies between the human, nonhuman, and ocean be created to make life more hospitable? This project calls for a refusal of the infrastructures that separate the three in creating a disassemblable canopy structure that facilitates a sensory relationship to the water while providing access to underwater farming. When no longer needed, the structure can be taken apart and used locally for housing expansion projects.
