Party at the Pier

RETURN, REVEAL, RECLAIM: the series of operations that took place in New York City’s Christopher Street Piers in Greenwich Village to recognize the past history of the site and our own personal stories as it ties to the project.

RETURN – visit the site. Frequently. At all hours of the day and at all corners and edges in the neighborhood. Leave no stone unturned or cup of coffee untouched. Eat everywhere. Take up space.

REVEAL – find meaning at the site. Eat a lot of Chinese food. Wander around until a free table is available. Question use and utility of the public space. Watch “Paris is Burning”.

RECLAIM – discover, not impose, a design solution. Build a tent. Many. Eat more crab rangoons. Many of those, too. Reconcile environmental and cultural trauma at the site of gentrification.
