“Felt Biocomposites: On the Nature of Hard Softness” is a study on experimental techniques of sheep wool felting that introduce a variety of biopolymer binders, including sodium alginate, guar gum, corn starch, and rabbit skin glue. Drawing from the material cultures of ancient nomadic tribes, such as Mongolian nomads and their felting techniques used to construct traditional Mongolian yurts, this project examines the potential for felting in contemporary architectural applications for achieving dynamic and structural forms.
