Sight to Site

We stand at a crossroads, where digital advancements have led us to an era of unprecedented connectivity, yet paradoxically, a time when genuine human connection is increasingly rare. Sight to Site reimagines the forgotten Radio Relay Towers which once connected the United States as beacons for both human and ecological connection. The towers first built in the 1950s and later superseded by the rise of fiber optics and 5G, now stand as quiet monuments to a lost era of optimism. Zooming into eight towers which connect New York to Boston, each spaced 30 miles apart, the project proposes a multi-day walking trail supplemented by temporary community-built installations. In addition to their social function, the towers will be retrofitted to form a safe migratory flyway for birds, offering protected resting points along key avian routes. Sight to Site reactivates these structures as beacons of connection between people, places, and the natural world.
