New Archipelago

Our project aims to redefine and redesign the archipelago at Guanabara Bay, creating urban systems while enhancing it’s ecological, social, and economic values. In the short term, it is feasible to open up visits to these oil islands to the public and gradually add renewable energy facilities to the oil rigs. With purifying, utilizing, and strengthening the reef area, creating an education and leisure space for urban residents can enable the bay to face the future in its energy transition. In the long run, post industrial park, floating walkway, and mobile urban spaces transformed from supertankers will emerge and the archipelago will truly become a civic space.
