Fangirlscape (𝓕𝓪𝓷𝓰𝓲𝓻𝓵𝓼𝓬𝓪𝓹𝓮)

Project by Aye Aye Tha Esther Su

Fangirlscape (stylised Fangirlscape) is an exploration of K-pop ‘fangirl’ culture, sited in the ‘(fan)girlroom’. Anchored in consumption/collection/curation/creation, the project touches on notions of clutter, inventory, adornment, identity. The fangirl is posited as an ageless, genderless being, and versus the fan, the fangirl is actively involved in the creation & propagation of subcultures, aesthetics, communities. The fangirl operates mainly through the phone— the central interface between idol&fangirl, fangirl&fangirl. Within the room, the fangirl operates across various composite surfaces; there is a sensibility to this mode of operation, and the fangirl moves their collection across these surfaces as a response to different contexts.
