Granular Refinement

Project by Jonny Liboyi

Exploring the Domino Sugar refinery across past, present, and imagined futures, from the refinement of sugar to the refinement of data. Using a red/grey/blue stereoscopic-like approach designed for 3D glasses, red marks the historic sugar refinery, grey the current office space, and blue a speculative data center. The overlapping channels allow for examination of the temporal layers simultaneously, revealing the texture and material decay. Here, the 3D glasses are both a lens and a conceptual device, making visible the hidden relationships between labor and urban decay.
