Data Energy Flow

This project explores whether moving data centers into orbit actually reduces their environmental impact. Current data centers on land consume large amounts of energy, water, and space, with the highest concentrations in states like Texas, California, and Virginia. One proposed solution is to relocate them into space, but this requires frequent rocket launches. At Boca Chica, these launches create buffer zones defined by noise, debris risk, and restricted access, while also impacting nearby wetlands, with over 22.5 acres proposed for filling. In orbit, cooling still requires large radiation panels, adding mass and launch demand. The project shows that infrastructure does not disappear, but shifts its impact elsewhere.
