The Festival of Care takes place in Washington Heights, specifically along Nagle Avenue, where the Dominican immigrant community is strongly represented through its local businesses. These spaces reflect a defining quality of Dominican culture: a deep sense of care, kindness, and hospitality that welcomes people from all backgrounds and encourages cultural exchange. The project proposes expanding the sidewalks and introducing temporary structures that extend business activities into the public realm. During the summer, the street transforms with sunlight, palm trees, and bougainvillea, creating a lively and inclusive environment. Grooming practices such as barbering and beauty care become shared outdoor experiences, while additional areas for hammocks, domino games, and communal dining support rest and gathering. Every Sunday, the festival brings live music, dancing, and food, celebrating Dominican culture while strengthening connections and fostering meaningful cultural exchange.
