Anchored Canopy

This project explores the reuse of existing site infrastructure by treating a tower as both structural anchor and spatial generator. Originating from an encounter with an extreme winter landscape, where the tower stood as the only visible figure, the proposal reclaims the space beneath it as a protected atrium for gathering in harsh conditions. An elevated platform, informed by crib dock construction, establishes a new ground that responds to unstable terrain while aligning with the tower’s geometry. Above, a series of hyperbolic paraboloid (hypar) roof surfaces extend from the tower and ground, forming a porous enclosure that mediates between interior and landscape. These geometries organize the interior: circulation follows the inner perimeter to maintain visual continuity, while program elements align with the structural logic of the roof. By allowing walls to shift into ceilings and avoiding direct contact with the roof edges, the project emphasizes spatial fluidity and perceptual engagement.
