Even though stormwater events occur 4-10 times annually, they represent up to 85% of the city budget as a result of direct damage to both private and public property. Due to the climate crisis, they will occur on a more frequent basis. These challenges are linked directly to the elimination of a pre-existing marshland resulting from land development. This compromises the biome’s capacity to absorb stormwater, which flows away from existing pervious grounds. Our Project focuses on two main strategies. First, the project connects a harvesting system to nearby catch basins and absorbs surface runoff before it overflows the sewage system. Second, it recognizes program voids in the existing infrastructure of the harvesting sites and allocates programmatic needs to the extension.
