LEARN TO PLAY transforms the existing PS188 Island School by creating an environment that prioritizes nurture and exploration for the existing homeless student population. Structured around the Waldorf education system, LEARN TO PLAY distributes grade levels Pre-K to 8th grade into sectors that focus on the body, the hands, and the mind so that children can develop their creative thoughts through different stages of learning. These three sectors – the Play Village, the Exploration Workshops, and the Think Forums are separated into three types of building languages that merge to form interweaving spaces. This allows for students from various grade levels to flow from one place to another, encouraging engagement one’s motor skills, social skills, as well as analytical skills in collective, and intimate settings.
