Kingston Cave Mine / Shared Schoolyard

Hidden and disused, the Kingston Cave represents the uncomfortable history of aggressive resource extraction that occurred in many of the Hudson Valley towns. Our proposal establishes a shared experimental schoolyard for the Kingston City School District within the post-natural geological environment, engaging its unique history, form, and materiality. Youth education and recreation programs attempt to recontextualize the human activity within the site.
