The Bronx single mother is a one person army. From a low income
with multiple shift jobs to childcare, cooking, cleaning, doing
laundry…The modern domestic space clearly needs not only new
financing models but most importantly a new design that caters
to the majority of this neighborhood’s population. This project
proposes spaces for rest, concentration, and communication by
creating time saving devices on three scales: furniture (the mom
cart), architecture (layout of units on site), and public space (the
hallway). For the Bronx single mother and her children, there is a
need for a proposal that rethinks the way we design housing in
2021.
