30 Degree is a proposal combining the existing P.S. 64 with a newly added incubator space for local artists and musicians. The project tries to identify the triangular relationship between students, local artists, and the community, translating them spatially into a new hybrid complex. Within the newly designed school, students can play, observe, and learn from the work of local artists. At the same time, artists can have fully equipped facilities to do their related research. Additionally, the new P.S. 64 is also an agency to promote local emerging artists within and beyond the community. Further, the community is connected and tightened by those activities, students, artists, and residents. The final design strategy is intended to add new artists’ incubator volumes to penetrate the existing classroom framework. It involves removing the center part entirely, keeping the load-bearing walls on two wings, adding extra columns to support new volumes, and applying glass curtain walls to the center space between two wings.
