Give one a fish, and you feed them for a day; teach one to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime. Here, community participants offer and receive food, knowledge, skill, generosity, and hope through the non capitalized process of exchange and redistribution of resources. Believing in “butter for guns”, the renovation of Schulze Baking Company will house programs of sharing and exchanging of private goods, the common good, as well as educational resources for self-defense of every one’s right of better living in the community. As the symbol of taste and nutrition that fed the community both from the historic production lines in this building, and the symbol of resonance and reestablishment of the Free Breakfast for Children program by Black Panther Party in higher horizon, butter will be served as daily resources to fight against more than physical hungriness, but will also be expanded towards developing resources to diminish social and intellectual poverty. Butter’s natural quality of stickiness will be represented through the connections among the members of this exchange autonomy. There will be three programs: “Breakfast All Day;” the “Skill and Resource Exchange/Redistribution;” and the “Children’s Library and Knowledge/Creative Exchange.” They will cooperate programmatically and be architecturally fueled. All the members and resources of the community will be circulated inside and outside of the building, creating a self-contained and symbiotic environment for exchange and communication.
