Strong Ties, Weak Ties
Starting from Anni Albers’ 1947 painting, Knot, I focused on exploring the gradient of the relationships between the three strings that formed the tangled composition of the work. As I attempted various methods of studying Knot, I was able to draw parallels between the work and various types of networks. In Knot, strong ties create structure, and weak ties define space between elements. The following studies are abstractions on this concept.
