Olga Aleksakova

Olga Aleksakova is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP, a practicing architect, co-owner of Buromoscow and professor at Moscow Architecture school.

Born in 1973 in Moscow, she graduated in 1998 with distinction from TU Delft (NL). From 1997 till 2003 Olga worked at Office for Metropolitan Architecture as leading architect for Flick Museum Zurich, Hermitage General Staff Building in Saint-Petersburg and Krost urban Development in Moscow.

Olga is one of the two leading partners at Buromoscow, an architecture practice specializing in affordable housing and urban design. In their work, they closely combine search and practice. For the last 15 years, Buromoscow has worked on making standard housing less standard and more human scale, yet affordable. They studied the possibilities of using the technology of prefabrication within the new market conditions of post-soviet Russia.

Buromoscow is also designing public space. Their project for Triumfalnaya square in Moscow has been internationally published and has won several Russian architecture awards. Their project for Kindergarten at Varshavskoe shosse has received Archsovet Award as the best public building of 2017.

Olga was a supervisor of Strelka Institute research program on Energy, the future of fossil fuels in Russia in 2012.

Olga is a member of the Architecture Council of Moscow, speaker at various urban forums and conferences, member of jury for different competitions. She also is a consultant to different agencies on changing norms and regulations in urban planning and housing.
