Julia Burdova

Julia Burdova is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP and a practicing architect and urban designer. She graduated from Moscow Architectural Institute in 1997 with a Master of Architecture and Urbanism and is currently a professor at Moscow Architecture School MARCH. Her courses are focusing on the issues of rethinking the housing, Soviet social, and urban planning heritage in the new economic conditions.

Julia is one of the two leading partners and a co-founder of Buromoscow architecture firm with more than twenty years experience. Buromoscow became known for changing the face of prefabricated mass housing and creating vibrant urban public spaces in post-Soviet Russia. Its project for Triumfalnaya Square was internationally published and received many positive reactions and awards, such as a State Award for Arts and Culture. Buromoscow received the State Award for Architecture and Urbanism for the project of Kindergarten at Varshavskoe Shosse, 141 for the best public building of 2017. Since 2018, Buromoscow has shared its experience and spread its ideas to Russian regions by winning competitions in the cities of Khabarovsk and Blagoveshchensk.

Julia is a member of various architectural juries and а speaker at numerous urban forums and conferences. She is also a member of the Architectural Council of Moscow and the Union of Moscow Architects.
