Rustam Mehta

Rustam-Marc Mehta is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP. He is a registered architect, LEED AP and founding partner of GRT Architects.

Rustam studied architectural history at Brown University (AB, 2002) before moving to New York to design exhibitions for The Brooklyn Museum of Art. In addition he worked as an editorial assistant at Nest Magazine and assisted artist Polly Apfelbaum. Following this experience Rustam studied architecture at Yale (M.Arch, 2007) where he also edited the journal Perspecta and served as a teaching assistant in the history of art and photography.

Upon graduation Rustam worked for eight years at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, leaving as a Senior Associate. He was the Project Manager for the Bill and Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex at UT Austin, a 233,000 SF collaborative workspace completed in 2013, the School of Informatics and Computing and at IU Bloomington and the Freeman Business School at Tulane University. In addition he was team leader for the design of a large mixed use complex in the Pudong district of Shanghai.

Previously, Rustam taught Architecture at Wesleyan University and continues to serve as an invited guest critic at schools of architecture. His work has been exhibited at Storefront for Art and Architecture, Triple Canopy and the University of Michigan Taubman School of Architecture. He has been restoring a 1973 Alfa Romeo for seven years and hopes to drive it soon.
