Environmental and Climate Justice in Harlem: Interrogating Environmental Histories through Preservation

Using Harlem as a lens of interrogation, this studio explored the historic perspective of environmental racism and environmental justice in NYC through place-focused research, to better understand the land use-related dimensions of these histories, how injustice is embedded and repeated in built environments and policies over time, and how preservation’s methods of inquiry can be brought to bear on this legacy and climate justice-oriented planning.
