Redesigning Pleasant Village Community Garden for Resiliency

Our proposal is a redesign and preservation plan for the Pleasant Village Community Garden in response to the ongoing development of affordable housing at the site, which will reduce the footprint of the Community Garden. The Pleasant Village Community Garden has provided its community in East Harlem with a range of social and environmental benefits over the years. The proposal seeks a Community Benefits Agreement with the developer for compensation against potential losses, and further aims to maintain the overall garden condition and use, to contain contaminated soil, and to promote remembrance of the Lenape peoples.
